Ventura CountyLandmark No. 43: Hill Ranch Brick Cistern
Historical Background
This 8-foot-deep cistern was built in 1880 to store water from a nearby spring for grazing stock on the Sam Hill Ranch. It’s located one-half mile west of Hill Canyon Road and one mile south of Santa Rosa Road within Thousand Oaks’ Wildwood Regional Park.
The Hill family were among some of the first American settlers in the Conejo Valley. They purchased the extensive acreage in 1874 from John Edwards, one of the original American landowners in Conejo.
