Ventura County Landmark No. 84: Anna M. Logan House

Historical Background

This 1‑1/2 story house is one of Santa Paula’s best examples of the Eastlake style, built around 1888–1890 (City of Santa Paula, 2020; Ventura County Resource Management Agency, Planning Division, 2016). Historically associated with Anna M. Logan, the home shows the detailed wood trim and decorative features common in Eastlake‑style houses of the late 19th century (City of Santa Paula, 2020). The front gabled dormer includes a dropped wooden pendant, simple cutout designs, and an arched window with a sunburst pattern that adds character to the home’s façade (Ventura County Resource Management Agency, Planning Division, 2016). A corbelled chimney, along with the decorative trim on the porch and front bay, further reflects the careful workmanship typical of homes built during this period (Ventura County Resource Management Agency, Planning Division, 2016).

Property Today

The Anna M. Logan House remains a recognizable Victorian landmark on North Mill Street (County Office, n.d.). While the interior has been adapted for multi‑family residential use, the exterior retains the essential Eastlake‑style features that contribute to its historic significance (Ventura County Resource Management Agency, Planning Division, 2016). The steep rooflines, corbelled chimney, and decorative stickwork along the porch and front bay remain visible, preserving much of the home’s late‑19th‑century architectural character (County Office, n.d.). Located within the historic Blanchard & Bradley subdivision, the house continues to contribute to the charm and identity of Santa Paula’s older neighborhoods while remaining an active residence within the community (Ventura County Resource Management Agency, Planning Division, 2016).
