Ventura County Landmark No. 93: Wood Ranch Barns

Historical Background

These barns were built in the 1940s and used for cattle ranching by Adrian G. and Emma Grubb Wood on their 5,000-acre ranch in the southwest corner of Simi Valley. The ranch had been known by many names through the years. It was Cañada Verde during Spanish Rancho times, then shortened to the Verde. Names associated there were McCoy and McNaughton, and the Taylor Ranch Company.

The buildings consist of a main barn, 100 feet long by 50 feet wide, and a feed barn, 160 feet long by 23 feet wide, with an overhang of approximately 11 feet. The barns were moved to the Strathearn historical park when the Wood Ranch subdivision was begun.
