Historic Property Plaques
If your property is listed as a County of Ventura Landmark, Historic District, Site of Merit, or Point of Interest you may choose to display a plaque or marker that highlights its historical significance. Plaques are a great way to:
- Share your property’s history with the community
- Promote awareness and appreciation of local heritage
- Show its official historic designation in a lasting, visible way
Displaying a plaque is completely optional. Property owners are not required to identify their property as historically registered. This webpage provides helpful information and resources for property owners who are interested in obtaining a plaque. However, property owners are responsible for selecting and buying and installing their own plaque or marker.
Plaque Templates
To make things easier, the Ventura County Planning Division offers optional plaque templates you can use as examples. These templates can be customized to fit your preferences. Planning Division staff can also help suggest wording for your plaque.
There are no County requirements regarding whether a plaque is installed, its size, material, style, or wording. Property owners are free to use any design, manufacturer, or inscription they prefer. Sample plaque templates are as follows:
