Ventura County Landmarks, Districts, & Points of Interest Inventory

An interactive map is available featuring Ventura County Landmarks, Districts, and Points of Interest. Ventura County Cultural Heritage Ordinance No. 4604 establishes the designation framework for Cultural Heritage Sites, including Landmarks, Sites of Merit, Points of Interest, and Districts, with criteria outlined in Section 1367.

Please note that the County of Ventura generally has project review authority only for designated and potentially eligible Cultural Heritage Sites located in the unincorporated areas of the county, as well as in cities that contract with the County for cultural heritage services. The County currently provides these services to Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Fillmore, Simi Valley, and Thousand Oaks. The interactive map additionally includes resources listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Resources. However, sites with removed or downgraded designations are not included in the list.

Ventura County Landmarks

Landmarks are sites that meet one or more formal criteria of historical, architectural, or cultural significance and retain enough physical integrity to clearly convey that significance. They represent the most important historic resources in the County.

Ventura County Historic Districts

Districts are groups of related historic properties that together form a cohesive and significant concentration of buildings, structures, or sites united by a shared historical or aesthetic context. They must have clearly defined boundaries, meet at least one significance criterion, and retain sufficient overall integrity.
